Vocalist's instruments, unlike any other musician, are inside their bodies. And as any dedicated performer knows, you have to take care of your instrument. If you know anything about singing, you've probably heard to not consume dairy or even caffeine. So.. what can you have? Healthy foods, obviously, but believe it or not, greasy foods. YES!! That means you can consume all the non-cheese pizza and potato chips you want prior to a show! Grease actually lubricates the vocal cords, allowing for a easier time singing, i.e., less damage and better sound. I once worked with a woman who would eat an entire bag of Lays right before a performance! Another thing I have learned is that Jolly Ranchers, and hard candies alike, work wonders! I believe they produce the same kind of affect as cough drops do. And one more thing....throat coat. As much as I hate warm liquids (yes, yes, I know, I'm weird), steaming of any sort truly relaxes your muscles and opens up your throat. Below is my friend's recipe for Magic Drink!

Magic Drink

-1 cup of Water

-2 tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar

-2 tbsp of Lemon Juice

-2 tbsp of Honey

-pinch of Cinnamon (opt.)

  1. Heat water then add ingredients *lemon cancels out vinegar taste!*
